Student Support Services

DMSc students are encouraged to utilize all MBKU resources as needed. Some student support services are specifically for DMSc students while others are open to all students.  For a detailed description of MBKU student support services, please refer to the MBKU Student Handbook.

Advising Services

Students will receive guidance from program faculty, who provide essential academic support in the DMSc program. Students are encouraged to meet with faculty as needed for academic advising. They can also schedule appointments with the program director. Academic advising aims to address the unique challenges faced by distance learners, including improving study skills, managing time effectively, and accessing technical support. Peer engagement opportunities will be available through online discussion forums and collaborative projects, fostering a sense of community among DMSc students.

Student Achievement Center

The Student Achievement Center and Other Student Support Resources is a central hub for online and in-person support. The center provides an online course with resources such as handouts, seminar recordings, mental health support, study tips, and financial wellness tools. Students can also take advantage of free tutoring, stress and time-management seminars, career resources, and disability services. These offerings support both academic success and personal growth, helping students develop into compassionate, well-prepared healthcare professionals. If you have questions, email studentservices@ketchum.edu.

Mental Health Counseling Services

Students can access free university counseling services. These services are available in person or remotely. Also, Hope Counseling Center provides sessions for $5 each for students. See Mental Health Counseling in the University Student Handbook for more information.

Financial Support

Students can access the Financial Aid Office for general financial aid information and program-specific details, including student expense budgeting, entrance and exit counseling, and loan repayment services. All financial aid assistance is available through remote platforms or email. Students can also contact Student Accounts Services for support with billing and payment-related inquiries via email or through the MBKU student portal. Additionally, students have access to a financial wellness and literacy online platform that offers various tools and resources to support educational and personal financial well-being. See Financial Aid in the University Student Handbook for more information.

Career Development

Students can access various career development resources, including online job boards, resume review services, interviewing tips, ask-the-expert feature, and the annual MBKU Career Symposium. See Career Development Services in the University Student Handbook for more information.

Disability and Accommodation Statement

Your access to this program is important. If you experience barriers due to a disability or a personal circumstance that may affect your learning, please inform your instructor or advisor as early as possible so we can discuss the best ways to meet your needs. You are also encouraged to review the Accommodating Students section of the handbook or contact Disability Services at StudentAffairs@ketchum.edu or call 714-449-7445.

If adjustments to a DMSc course structure or online interactions would support your full participation, feel free to share your suggestions with your instructor. Feedback on reading formats, recorded lectures, and discussion board activities is always welcome.

MBKU Library

Library support services are available in person and electronically during Library hours and during evenings and weekends by appointment via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Library hours are posted on the main M.B. Ketchum Memorial Library website.

Students can access Library support and resources 24/7 via the Sirsi Enterprise website (http://ketchum.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/). The library uses OCLC’s EZ-Proxy software to authenticate users so they can access electronic resources via EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Library staff also provide document delivery services through DOCLINE, the Medical Library Association’s interlibrary loan service. The library site also includes a ZenDesk Chat messenger that notifies staff about help requests or messages left after hours.
